This is a key role within the Council that will see you collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to offer strategic financial input to support service and budget planning.
One of six Service Directors in the organisation, you can expect to play an involved and visible role in a range of settings, as well as having direct management responsibility for the Finance and Internal Audit teams.
In time other responsibilities may come under the remit of this role, following the recent return of a range of previously outsourced services.
You will also take the lead on the Council’s commercial approach, reviewing the existing position and shaping a more structured and consistent approach across the Council, establishing models of good practice for other parts of the organisation to draw on.
Your professional contribution will be vital to support decision-making: both at a service level, working with other service directors, and at a strategic level, advising elected members and ensuring corporate decisions are well-informed and benefit from a full appreciation of risk.
It’s important that you can bring the financial expertise and personal demeanour that will allow you to advise, influence and challenge others’ thinking to arrive at robust outcomes.
Highly developed leadership skills will be key: you’ll help to shape a modern and proactive finance function, that can add value at early stages of business planning and that is closely aligned to corporate priorities. As the Council’s S151 officer it is essential that you are a qualified accountant.
